About Nic
Our founder, Nic, brings nearly two decades of experience to Harvey Woodcraft.
His passion for woodworking is inspired by a family legacy—his grandfather was a carpenter—which laid the foundation for his craft. Nic’s journey began with a trade in French Polishing and expanded to include painting and decorating, house renovations, furniture making, and campervan conversions. He honed his skills studying joinery and furniture making for almost four years at Ara in Christchurch.
Nic’s creativity is fuelled by a wide range of materials, including American Ash, Oak, Walnut, and Maple, as well as modern options like bamboo and laminates. This diversity allows us to create distinctive, one-of-a-kind pieces that reflect a perfect balance of traditional techniques and contemporary methods.
“Nic is not merely a joiner, he is an artist. I came to him with the crudest ideas and sketches of the kitchen I wanted, after the large kitchen makers had told me they weren’t possible.
Nic not only brought my ideas to life, but built on them with his own great ideas. Even doing things like custom making bamboo handles to match the countertop, and hand router cutting the track for an LED strip so it would curve just perfectly.
He understood my vision, and it made for a wonderful creative partnership! The end result was not just an amazing kitchen, but something that is truly one-of-a-kind!”
